Background of Other Literary Works

Restoration of Love

Restoration of Love is a short story which describes the awakening of two people after they jointly help a teenager attain high school credentials. Kevin M. Weeks wrote this literary work days after his sophomore novel, The Street Life Series: Is It Passion or Revenge?, was published in January 2008.  Restoration of Love was submitted for inclusion in an upcoming anthology titled Love Wins: True Stories of Transformation and Triumph by New York Times best-selling author and broadcast journalist Tavis Smiley (SmileyBooks).  As of  2010, Kevin M. Weeks is unaware if his short story will be chosen for the anthology.

The Anne Frank Center Prison Diary Program:
Expedition out of the Concrete Jungle

Kevin M. Weeks was invited by PEN American Center and the Anne Frank Center USA to participate in a diary writing program in 2008.  Weeks kept a journal over a period of time and submitted this work to the Anne Frank Center.  Expedition out of the Concrete Jungle is Weeks’ account of his last and final journey out of the penal system of the United States

In 2010, Kevin M. Weeks was invited by Anne Frank Center USA to submit this personal diary for potential inclusion in an upcoming Anne Frank Prison Diary book by Cynthia L. Cooper, who is an award-winning journalist, playwright and author.  Once Ms. Cooper publishes the book, a percentage of the proceeds will go to the Anne Frank Center to help with the upkeep of the Prison Diary Writing Project and its archives.

How The Street Life Series Contributes to the Landscape of Hip Hop Literature

While writing his third novel, The Street Life Series: Is It Rags or Riches?, this critical essay was written for potential inclusion in an anthology on Hip Hop Literature.  The purpose of this essay is to position Kevin M. Weeks’ book series with other urban works.

Also, this article outlines one bold move that Kevin M. Weeks makes in his book series, which is the deviation away from totally digital book covers. The Street Life Series book covers incorporate themes from the story depicted in art form. In April 2009 after reading the essay, an urban fiction author wrote the following letter to Weeks with comments about Weeks' style of book covers.  (See Figure A.)

*Addendum::
  In December 2008, the Book Industry Study Group created two new Book Industry Standards and Communications (BISAC) subject codes which are used to categorize books for sale:  (1) African American Mystery & Detective Fiction and (2) Crime Fiction.  This means that authors like Kevin M. Weeks can list novels under both the African American Mystery & Detective Fiction and Crime Fiction
subject codes in order to more efficiently reach both readerships.
