50-11 times, a path of freedom

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I have heard parents say, “I know I told you 50-11 times to clean up your room.”  I am unsure of the origin of the saying 50-11.  However, I do know that the parent told the child at least 50 times or 11 times.  For sure, the child was warned more than 3 times. The hip hop  group, who made this saying most popular, was the Ying Yang Twins in the song “Get Low.”  The lyrics state, “. . . I came to the club about 50 11 times . . .”

50-11 makes it known that a higher authority is in charge – whether sharing wisdom with a child directly, or in the case of The Ying Yang Twins, exhibiting star power no matter the location.  Whatever the case, there is an exchange of vital information.

In my writing, I incorporate old school wisdom to guide my characters along their quest in life.  A few of the quotes from The Street Life Series are as follows.

  • “Always do what you always did; and you will always get what you always got.” – Anonymous
  • “See it for what it is; see it for what it’s worth.”  – Anthony Weeks, Senior
  • “The business of business is business.” – Milton Friedman
  • “My brothers, always remember that you’ll forever be faced with decisions in life; and your decisions can better your life or destroy your life. So choose wisely.” – Imam

Today is the 22nd.  Know this.  With wisdom comes freedom, justice, and equality.  Why?   “When I was a child, I spake as a child; I understood as a child; I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”   (1 Corinthians 13:11)
